Ok, isso não é papo furado, por isso criei o tópico aqui nesta seção.

A idéia é a seguinte: uma 'escolinha de inglês' no fórum AG!
No método Cambridge ensinado nas escolas de inglês mundo afora os alunos são estimulados a conversar em inglês o tempo todo e ir aprendendo conforme praticam. A ênfase na gramática é menor, sobrando mais tempo para o professor desenvolver o 'conversation'.

O esquema vai ser o seguinte. Para iniciar, levantarei um tema de discussão, e todos aqueles que quiserem opinar ou falar sobre o assunto devem postar em inglês.

A ideia é desenvolver um pouco a capacidade de escrita de cada um aqui. Nem que seja uma palavra de afirmação ou desaprovação. É por aí que começamos. Todo mundo aqui vai errar e acertar, a intenção é apenas se comunicar! Se o outo puder ajudar e quiser corrigir o companheiro, sem problemas! Mas de preferência em inglês. XD

Se alguém não entender, não precisa ter vergonha. Pode usar o Google Tradutor, mas o legal seria perguntar para o próprio membro que postou, do tipo: "I don't understand. Please, speak again." Ou, "What?"

Hehe, não sei se vai dar certo, mas vamos ver no que dá. Se não vingar peço para apagarem o tópico depois.

Me too, never repeated a year, but I stopped my studies 2 years before I go to university.
Today I'm 24 years old. I really wish I had done things differently. Unfortunetelly, choose is is choose.

But, I'm still very young, right? I have to think in my future.

I agree with you. The public school system in Brazil is very poor and unequal. In some places, like big cities and downtown, the public school is so better than in other places, like small cities and suburbs.

Just for this reason, after to finish high school, many students aren't prepared to enter a college. And they are obliged to do a parallel school, or in portuguese: "cursinho". But, many many people does not have money to pay that and have to study in home, without teacher's support.

Like you said, some subjects need an additional explanation, like maths or physics.

However, tell me Kris. Do you wanna do a 'cursinho' in next year? Or you already doing this?

I strongly believe that if you have to learn english by repeating the words over and over again off course !will be harder!

The methods used on schools in brazil these days, will take years to make any effect on the overall english of the students, in the other hand methods like Cambridge and Power memory Phonics. won't have the same effect and results.

Forcing a student to speak english everyday will open the gates of english by making a student seek always new vocabulary. and if the student had a great conversation with your partner on an emotional level, will be more likely that the conversation will be remembered.

At this moment, I'm studying Physical Education on university. That's my last year, and I'm doing the TCC and two trainee services.

The time is my problem, but I can't to do just work tasks. This forum is my outlet to escape from stress. Today I talked a lot with Krisnt. She is a pre-college girl and I know how this is it. It was good! ^^

My dilemma is the knowledge area that I choosed. Sometimes I think in change my focus and, maybe, do a technical school, probably assembly and maintenance of computers. I already have experience with this. I'm doing freelance with this have 4 years and... I don't know.

School and work is good! But there is seriously nothing better than hanging out with someone who has known you forever.


On a warm sunny day in August of 2009 my friend called me up to complain about a crazy brother . As we talked and , I proceeded to tell her, "I'm sure it is nothing, I wouldn't worry about it.

We found out a month later that he had Mental retardation. How in heavens would i know that?

She made an appointment right away with a very well-known and respected specialist. I remember driving with her to the appointment in San francisco. We were so indifferent, almost jovial. I guess we both still thought that this had to be a big mistake. Even if he did have Mental Problems, we surely had caught it at an early stage.


Those six months were not only the worst of my friend life, but of mine also. She went from being a little bit fat to very skinny.

After seeing someone disintegrate before your eyes, and go from a healthy, active, funny, really cool person to...well, sad.

This history made me think in healthy problems. My family have some health problems. For example, almost of all my aunts and uncles have polycystic kidney disease.

It's a chronic disease that degenerate the kidney after 30 years old about. My father has it too. Three times a week he do hemodialysis to recover blood purity.

Anyway, it's painful, but we trying to face it the best way possible. Finally, I'll have to take the exam to check my kidneys too. The disease has a genetic cause, but I'm confidant about my future.

I believe google translator is just Fine as long you are using carefully, looking for a specific word instead of looking for a whole sentence. especially at times of vocabulary loss. per example i forgot how to say "Lâmpada", than after consulting google translator i find out that it means "lamp".

answering your question i have a IMC 25,1 oh well im a little over the average! probably just my muscles n_n. i used to brisk walk every day. i stopped for while, now i see the results. i believe eating healthy its another important factor to lose weght or even gain muscle as well. leaving off the diet, simple carbohydrates, sugar,processed foods, lowering the content of Meat will also benefit oneself in many ways. determination, knowledge and hardwork its all it takes.

I think it could be interesting to bring this topic back, if anyone is interested in giving continuation I can go around fixing the mistakes =)

I learned playing games in english, while talking with other people also in english on one of those games, and then later writing on forums.

I rarely make a google search in portuguese these days, too little information most of the time, unless its something brazilian, then the english information sucks.

Do you guys realize that fewer people will learn english playing video games in the next years? Xbox 360 and Play3 ... they have translations and dubbing .. for nearly all games o__o this is sad .-.

Dubbing is terrible, and translation is still worse than the original.

Its not like brazilians in general are all that interested in learning anything though, so I doubt that changes much.

What would the economy have to do with information? Everybody all over the world know and write in english, and there's a lot more going on outside brazil, that's all. Nobody knows portuguese and there's not a lot of people that do that are interested in writing information sites like wikipedia.

Well, I'm just saying, situation in brazil (especially) tend to get worse, with these dubbed games, I kind of hate dubbing but I know when it's fan made, it can be at least funny to watch a little ... but in games, dubbing is not fan made... +D and worse, the brazilian game dubbers are the same anime dubbers, those voices from dubbed cartoons too, ... x_X

About wikipedia, I think it's a great work by great people, but only the version in english, nearly all other languages have a lot to grow up in size and quality, yet... +D

French wikipedia has a lot of info on a couple of things english has none though. Then again, sometimes it depends on what you're looking for, there's some things which the portuguese wikipedia even has more information than the others.

It seems that a lot of dubbing is going on in the games world... @__@

My brother has a Play3, and sometimes he has a hard time turning out the dubbing to play the original audio .... xP

Talking about the market in games around here, I really miss the old Master System and Mega Drive times ... x.x (oops, it's Sega Genesis in english, not Mega Drive...) X'D

I did not know they translate most of the games in brasil like they do it here in the U.S. i see your point! but one thing i don't get it.. how are the brazilians translators making money, since most of the games sold there are Copied/Pirate.

What I really hate about dubbing is when they dub japanese games into english, then don't let you select the voices... Like on grandia 3, on the voices in japanese, the protagonists sound just like your average protagonist, normal voice, adolescent-like... on english they sound like whining kids. And that happens a lot on english dubs. Hell, even some english originals sound worse than dubs on other languages. God. I still wanna play that game again on japanese, the only problem is that then I'll have both voices and text in japanese >.>

The ideal option to me was when I played Persona 3 ... it was considered 'english undub' if I'm not mistaken,... so, the audio was all original, in japanese, and the text was in english, so I could understand what I was playing... +D

When there is the option to change english to original audio in japanese, I always change it... XD~

Same, I can't stand english dubbing most of the time, specially if its cartoon, they always screw up cartoon dubs more than normal, animes too.

Ever saw most disney movies in a couple of other languages? A lot of them, on the right dub, are much better xD

For more serious things like real actor movies and realistic games it usually is where dubs don't make much of a difference or look strange when dubbed/better in english, but on lots of other things besides those, its so common that the dubs are better than english original.

I hate it too! especially naruto dub, in the games theres one thing you can do, but won't save you a lot of time though, you can play both versions of the game portuguese and english, so when you play english you know what is going on inside the story, but here a question: how can you play both versions if the big guys translate everything?

Now with the possibility of buying games at PSN or Live at cheaper costs (not that in Brazil there is a huuuge difference in prices between the disc ver. or DLC ver.), more people are having access to original games.
But when it comes at games that are originally japanese, nothing is better than listening to the original audio.
Brazilian dub or American dub, either way are pretty awkward.

They use that a lot nowadays:

Sub -> subtitled -> legendado
Dub -> dubbed -> dublado

I wouldn't like that, I would have too much accent and would be too obvious I'm not from there. I guess the only, sort of, good side (or not) is that some of them like that. But it would be embarrassing and I don't really like to go out talking to random people.

I think it would be much more fun to speak on some other languages personally, like japanese or nordic languages, but I'm still quite far on that.

I have the incredible ability to mix my accent whenever I hear a word.... +D it's most useful when we talk weird on Rio de Janeiro and the second time, we already know how to turn S into X and R into a throat sound... XD~

I'm reluctant to imitate accents I don't like, though with time you always end up starting to speak more like the people around you. And I don't really like english much. And I admit, I'm probably bad at imitating anyways, even if I try.
